Gobblin Around: Nascency Edition

Here at Gobbl we’re interested in knowing what’s happening in the world everyday to define the movers and shakers of the New York restaurant scene. Therefore, we’ve created Gobblin Around to bring you a firsthand snapshot of some of the day’s most important New York dining news and what it means to curious diners. Enjoy our first roundup!

In an effort to step up the ante in the massive proliferation of food trucks that has caught New York by storm this summer, Waffles 4 U (the Wafels and Dinges rival) announced the launch of its very own frites truck today, no doubt for some a bit of the East Village on wheels and others a victory for Belgian food purveyors. [Grub Street]

The 2008-2009 Zagat Nightlife Guide hit bookshelves this morning, crowning Pastis as the king of New York nightlife. Other popular haunts that fared well in this popularity contest of nighttime hangouts include Balthazar, Spice Market, and Blue Water Grill, with Bemelmans, King Cole Bar, and Church Lounge taking the cake for best after-work spots. [Grub Street]

The Brooklyn Paper reports that the Red Hook Ball Vendors scored a pyrrhic victory today, gaining permission to return ignominiously to their hallowed ball grounds this weekend. However, they return increasingly suffocated by the boa constrictor-like grip of rising food prices and ratcheted city health regulations. [Brooklyn Paper]

Sky farms, today in their infant idea stages, are to rise from Manhattan rooftops one day in the future.Manhattan Bureau President Scott Stringer gets a rise out of a green New York. Hopefully it means fresher food for future Gobblers. [New York Times]
