so you think division street and think classy dining establishment right? heck no...after 8pm all the stores selling chinese herbs and "fresh" fish close down, only to leave this non-marked restaurant front that resembles someone's wine cellar in Connecticut...the doors and windows open up the whole front to the empty street...there are two levels to the restaurant resembling a home dining room setting...
you walk in to a hostess modestly dressed like a fellow diner and no podium...the stairs downstairs are just behind her and the bar is to your right where the bartender doubles as your server...a crystal chandelier shines over the dusk setting of the dark woods, ornate marble tables with cast-iron legs and a dark wood wall...the busers are dressed in all black....their wine selection isn't hefty but they know what they're doing...
we ordered the baked eggs and asparagus, fried rice balls, spaghetti with clams, pork shank over polenta, and the marinated flank steak over greens...all i can say is this is how italian food should be...not fussy, great olive oil, not too oily, overpowering flavors aren't fighting each other, and the presentation was simple too...the 2 of us gobbled up the entire meal with ease!! the pork was spoon-ready and the flank steak sliced like tofu...the spaghetti was lightly tossed with olive oil and sweet tomatoes and the clams weren't tough at all..i loved the entire meal! the atmosphere was great for leisure or luxury depending on your company...if you like Peasant, Bacaro is more about the food and less the appeal...same owner, but I think they designed the place and menu very well
