Hidden away on 10th between 1st and 2nd Avenues is a little hole in the wall restaurant called ChikaLicious. It's tiny, but its large windows, stark white paint, and bright lights warmly welcome the droves of people who line up outside the door like moths to a flame.
ChikaLicious is a dessert place that patterns its dining experience like a 3 course meal. When you pick a dessert from their menu, you are essentially picking out the "main course" of your meal. They provide the starter/ amuse bouche and the petit fours before and after your "main course." They also have suggested wine pairings for your dessert choice if you opt to enjoy a little liquor with your meal.
Run by the husband and wife duo of Chika (the pastry chef) and Don (the sommelier), it is a warm and inviting haven for people who want a sweet treat and good conversation. As soon as you walk in, it is nothing but smiles and fantastic, personalized service. Something that is pretty hard to come by in this big city.
This little restaurant is the one place I consistently take friends and family. The selections change daily (except for the warm chocolate tart and the cheesecake) which is both a blessing and a curse if you like new dishes but also like repeating the old ones. The portions are also small enough to eat by yourself, and yet, perfectly sized enough to share with other people. I once brought four other people with me and we managed to share all our dishes with each other.
In the many times that I've been here, I have yet to find a dish that I've actually hated. ChikaLicious has consistently been able to match up and/ or exceed my expectations each time I drop by.
Best Bet: Drop by at 3pm (when they open) before the fans start to line up.
